Let's be honest here... Who the hell cares about menswear??? I certainly don't. :) But the curiosity in me grew when I heard John Galliano's collection had Charlie Chaplin as a reference. Chaplin can be a good inspiration, but work with it is also quite tricky: everything can get ludicrous and silly in a heartbeat.

In the end, I liked it very much! This psycho Chaplin is so interesting that it took me minutes to look at the clothes. Very creepy (in a good way, I guess). And the outfits... oh, very nice! It is not that I don't like skinny trouses for man. I certainly do, but all menswear collections out there have them this season. And to see some new proportions here is refreshing (and is much easier for me to ask my boyfriend to wear those for sure)!

In my crazy-fashion-things-to-do list, right after "wear glittler ankle boots" - crossed pretty soon due to financial reasons - was... "wear colourful eyeshadows"! It all started when I saw Versace Spring 2010 collection. I was immediattely drawn to that purple smokey eyes. Look how beautiful they were! I loved them!

And Scarlett Johansson loved them too!

Afterwards, two brazilian designers brought YELLOW eyes to Sao Paulo Fashion Week runway! And... WOW! How cool was it?

My reaction? "I MUST run to the closest MAC store and buy those eyeshadows". Then the rational part of my brain (it's a veeeery tiny part, you should know) shouted at me: "DUDE! Take it easy!". I understood the message right away: I don't have to pay MAC prices on a make-up that I will only wear a couple of times. Lilac is not the new black (btw, nothing is nor will ever be the new black, people!). I'll probably just get sick of it in a couple of weeks and move on. Soooooo... I ran to the closest SUPERDRUG and got this cool little set for 3,49 pounds! And it works perfectly fine!

My eyes are exactly like the ones the model from Isabela Capeto's cast has: you can't really see any eyeshadow when I have my eyes open. So I did just like the make up artist there and applied some colour under the eyelids (bad english here? Sorry, I don't know how to explain it! But I think you got it!). It sure looks a bit crazy, but I am having fun!

It's been a few days now since I discovered the Art of the Trench, a Burberry's hotsite dedicated to its most iconic piece - the Trench Coat. And I keep coming back every day for more and more. Can't get enough of it!

It pretty much follows The Sartorialist idea and gather around pictures of random people showing off their trenchs coats. In fact, Scott Schuman's collaborated with it: lots of the images were taken by him. But if you are a lucky Burberry coat owner, you're more than welcome to send your portrait. The best ones - er, of course - are published.

And I truly think that everyone is entitle to be sad and melancholic from time to time. Even the rich and famous. I was checking Betty's blog last week when something in one of her thousands of outfits made my eyes sparkle (but just because this little something was sparkling first)...

I thought to myself: holy moley, Betty is NOT afraid to try differents things. She is not afraid at all. It is not just about being an ankle boot - I do like ankle boots, although I find it so difficult to wear them. Is it just me? - but it is a sparkling glitter ankle boot! As shinny as a third grader art lesson. Hmmm, I compliment you, girl, for having the balls, but the truth is: they are much more than I can handle.

Days passed by... and I decided to see those boots again. Suddenly, I felt the courage kicking in! "You know what? I think I can do it! I can work sparkling ankle boots! I will overcome society prejudice against it. I will buy one for me and wear them proudly. After all, they are cool. Yeah, yeah, they are nice. Actually, they are ridicuslously amazing! YES, we can!"

The girls from Fashionista have written an open letter to Marc Jacbos regarding BANG and its stupid photo ad where he's posing naked. It is worth reading.

Dear Marc,

This is a very difficult thing for us to say, since we’ve been your biggest fans forever. We’ve always idolized you for your creative independence, geekiness, and wallflower chic-meets-grunge aesthetic. As a geeks ourselves, we admired you for always being yourself, which is so uniquely cool, instead of being trendy or sexy.

So, this letter comes with a ton of love and respect.

Many expressed outrage as you morphed from chubby, awkward Marc to hot, buff, usually naked Marc. Adjusting to sexy Marc was difficult.

Suddenly, Victoria Beckham replaced Sofia Coppola in your ads, and your shows were full of celebrities outshining the usual art scene crowd of Rachel Feinstein and Cindy Sherman. But you’re an amazing designer who is internationally revered and loved, so your audience changed with you.

We’ve never had a problem with sexy Marc. You kept it quirky in kilts, tons of tattoos, and the occasional blue hair. And your designs stayed grungey, awkward, cute, and gorgeous. But this is too much. You may be gay, sexy, and a famous fashion designer, but you are not Tom Ford.

And we’ll even quote you on that. “When I first went to Vuitton, I spent so much time comparing myself to Tom Ford, and Gucci was, like, this sexy thing…. More people understand what Tom does. It’s so basic, and that’s not a put-down. I think that’s so incredibly smart and focused, but it’s exactly what I shy away from. There’s a first-degree no-brainer definition of what’s sexy, but the reality of it is, what I find more interesting is someone who is more introverted or mysterious.”

So what’s this? We can’t find any mystery, intrigue, or subtlety in a photo of you lying naked on a Mylar sheet, a giant bottle of your new fragrance covering your man-bits. How is that any different from this Tom Ford ad?

We’re not asking you to change, or go back to “Old Marc.” All we’re saying is that your brand image has done a complete 180, and as loyal consumers we’re not willing to change ourselves for you.
When it comes to the clothes, you’re still speaking to us. Your Fall 2010 collection conjured the same feelings as some of favorite collections of yours ever–Fall 1998 and Fall 2006. And Louis Vuitton was just a pure masterpiece.

But this latest ad is a bit too much, especially for those girls–and potential clients–who haven’t been around over the last ten years to follow your career. If you’re okay with isolating the demographic that made you famous and moving on the to fame-hungry, sex-obsessed portion of the population, that’s fine. You’re running a business, and ultimately that’s about making money. In your place, we’re sure a lot of people would take a similar route.

It’s just that never, ever, in our lives did we think it would come to this. We miss the your signature awkwardness and rejection of pure sex-appeal, and we’re sure many others do too. Throw us nerds a bone here, we really want you back on our team.

Supermodels don't always impress me much. People say Gisele Bündchen rocks but - taking the risk of souding a bitter and envious girl - I couldn't disagree more. Yes, she's pretty. Yes, she's hot. But, come on!, she just can't be versatile! Doens't matter if she's the star of Colcci, Victoria's Secrets, GRENDENE... There she is, with her impeccable same old GisBun look. Booo-ooo-ring. I understand that's what industry wants from her: her to be nothing but her (with the stupid partly open mouth and the big wavy hair) in every campaign. And you know what? When she tries something different, it looks kinda silly.

Because you know she's wearing a wig she stole from her 82-year-old uncle. Because you can see she's not trying hard. That's why I prefer Kate Moss. The girl is not afraid of changes. She knows how to re-create herself, always bringing something new to the table.

Going to the Royal Opera on Saturday to see a ballet presentation got me interested in those pale colors of the ballerinas' suit. Coincidentally, on Sunday, Isa and I went to TopShop to check the gorgeous nude flat she bought it last week (read about it here, her blog, where I took the pic above from).

I did not get one for myself (which I regret completly), but couldn't stop thinking about these shades. So, since I've got nothing to do (besides lots of freelance articles and two huge Saint Martin projects), I went to Polyvore to create a whole nude outfit. This is how I would bring the Royal Ballet to the London streets.

Isa and I went to the Victoria&Albert museum to see the Grace Kelly exhibition, which displays the actress' absolutely stunning wardrobe. As soon as we entered it, I couldn't believe those people who criticized it to me, saying it was "small" and "not big of a deal". Ok, it is quite small indeed, but couldn't be more interesting and inspiring. That woman knew how to be classy... I must confess I felt kinda bad about wearing my Mickey Mouse shirt and a black miniskirt with horizontal striped tights in the same room her dresses were!

Here is my favorite picture of G.K. What a shame her wedding dress wasn't part of the collection. But doesn't it inspire you to wear LACE in your day-to-day life? Or is it just me?

If you feel the same as I do about lace, run to buy this supercheap long sleeve lace dress from Urban Outfitters! The price was 30,00 pounds, but now it's 9,99! It is bride Grace Kelly on a budget! :)

What a pleasant day I had yesterday trying to finish the project I'm supposed to present next Thursday (will write more about it soon). I had to buy some fabric and Liberty was my first stop. To tell you the truth, I did not find what I was looking for (TULLE, of course I was looking for TULLE!), but I stayed there for more than half an hour just admiring everything in the shop. Have you noticed how headbands are on everyone's head right now? I think they are cute and suit girls with long hair really well. Take a look at one of the Olsen twins (or both of them! The truth is that I can never tell which is which).

I am no Olsen girl, but I thought I could give it a go. Well, what happened is that... since I have so little hair, the headband held it all up. And my head ended up looking very similar to a MUSHROOM.

The bad news is: I have bought THREE headbands already. I don't really know why I did it. When I tried it on at the store, it seemed alright. I think that it is because I was wearing it with no pressure, you know what I am saying? Just put it on, not really caring about it, and, bang!, looked perfect! But now I am trying too hard. And everything gets messy. :S

However, today, I decided to be fashion forward. It was time to be brave. Went to my drawer to pick one of my headbands. Put the silver+golden one.

Asked my boyfriend: Are you going to be embarrassed to be seen in the street holding my hand?
He wasn't able to answer it properly: Hmmm...ammmm...not much...
I don't care - I said - Let's just do it! We'll be fine. It is not like we are going to bump into someone we know as soon as we leave our apartment.

BUT OF COURSE WE BUMPED INTO SOMEONE WE KNOW AS SOON AS WE LEFT OUR APARTMENT. Right on the entrance of the hall, we stumbled upon my supercool brazilian neighbor, Barbara. I thought about hidind it with my hands or even pulling it down to my neck, transforming it in a makeshift necklace. In the end, everything I could do was acting normal and pretending that I was indeed a fashionista.

Anyway... since she's already seen the shiitake horror, I decided to share it with all of you.

I'm a *very* conservative girl when it comes to fashion. It is just that, when you have so little money, you get used to spend it on tradicional pieces that you KNOW are going to work out fine in any occasion. In spite of that, I bought those pink shoes at H&M yesterday, but only because they were having a huge sale at the Covent Garden store. Got them for *five* pounds.

I started thinking about buying a pink pair when I saw super high-heeled ones at Primark. It was 15 pounds and, you know, 15 pounds is expensive when we are talking about Primark. Luckily enough (not to my savings accounts, of course), H&M came on my way with cheaper shoes and smaller heels (my feet appreciate that!). Next step is: trying to figure out what I should wear them with.

Guess who's been carried away by the Spring? Even though it is still freaking cold (as I ALWAYS say: I'm brazilian, I'm always cold), I started chasing summer clothes already! Prints, strong colours, short shorts and skirts, sandals... I want it all. And what I reaaaaally want right now is this red dress (29,99 pounds) from H&M Garden Collection...

There are so many details on it it makes me cry of joy...
But since it is freezing, I might as well go with that Rolling Stones song: You can't always get what you want ...but if you try sometimes, you get what you need. And what I reaaaaaally need right now is something to keep me warm...

So, a jacket (34,99 pounds) with the same pattern will do alright. :)

Stella McCartney: back to the future

I am very fond of Stella McCartney.
Her work has been impressing me since she was pointed as creative director of Chloé (in the beginning, I must confess, I was skeptical like Karl Lagerfeld: "she's just Paul McCartney's daugther, bring a real designer, will you?"). Well, yeah. We all had our prejudice. But she made her way through it with notorious collections. I was delighted to see some fresh pieces on very natural women on the runway. You know what I mean? A little break from all the artificial gaga stuff that are on the spotlight every single season.

And now, for a very less fashion related argument, two other reasons for me to be a great fan:

1) She seems to be so nice and adorable! As if she could be my superbestfriend and lend me all her best clothes and introduce me to her fabulous dad and invite me to a veggie barbecue with radish instead of meat and I would call Paul McCartney "uncle Paul" and... Well, I think you got the point.

2) She studied fashion at Central Saint Martin - college at which I am about to attend my very first fashion class next week. Yay! (You see how we are connected?)

I've introduced you to my good, good friend Ana (check the Mischa Barton post below). She's such a sweetheart. That's why I wanted to write something really cool and nice about her new FASHION T-SHIRT COLLECTION. Except I have no words. *Getting a bit emotional* So I will just tell you a little story. Keep up with me!

That was the day we decided to go to New York to study whatever and work as waitresses.

No, we didn't go through with the NY plan in the end. But didn't matter, we had a lot of other dreams. I mean, A LOT. One of those dreams was to design a fashion t-shirt collection. Nop. We didn't go throught with it either. Again, I mean, WE didn't, 'cause she did. Since that time, Ana, who's worked at Cavalera and Ellus for a while, has been creating beautiful t-shirt prints. Now, she's taking it to the next level: embroidered t-shirts.

Yesterday, Ana, one of my best friends in the world (and a very talented artist, check her flickr), said I should be less of a hater here. Hater. Can you believe that? Just because some truth about Miuccia Prada and Carrey...Carrey... oh, that Hepburn look-alike actress came up on this blog. But you know what? When a friend gives you a piece of advice, you must take it. And when this friend is someone super awesome, like owner-of-a-master-degree-in-awesomeness kind of person, you must take it really quickly.

Mischa, I have no clue about what you've going through - losing and gaining weight in a surely unhealthy way - but don't listen to those scumbags that are saying you are fat. You are not. I am such a big baby aching to buy every single piece from Stella McCartney GAP Kids collection. All the clothes are extremely cute, but a favorite one has got me head over heels.

There are shoulder pads, but not as "out there" as those from the catwalk. It is perfect for real life. I want it so hard. It's 79,99 pounds. If you like fashion, you must love Audrey Hepburn.
She is such an inspiring person (I am talking about her outfits and not about the "saving the world" thing she'd dedicated herself to later. LOL!), beautiful in an unusual way and as classy as a person can be.
That's why I was not surprise when I ran into this book at Urban Outfitters.

Yeah, not surprised at all. A bit annoyed, however. This Pamela person turned Audrey - one of the most sophisticated person in the history of humanity - into a lifestyle self-help book. I mean, what is she thinking she is doing? Teaching modern women to live life like Audrey did back in the 60's? The author goes: "lower your voice" and "have a afternoon nap in order to get your eyes rested". Hmmm... excuse me?

Here is a nice article about a journalist who tried to spend a week under Pamela-Hepburn's rules. In the end, the reporter buys that crap and is all "I improved a lot". But is worth reading anyway.

You know the message you're sending out to the world with these sweatpants? You're telling the world, 'I give up. I can't compete in normal society. I'm miserable, so I might as well be comfortable'.

Very funny. But obviously Jerry had never met Betty*.

Betty is a super cute girl that posts a bunch of pictures of herself wearing super cool outfits on her super popular blog (I’m kinda regretting telling you about her, you all will just stop reading my blog to go check hers, which is much cooler!). Anyway, take a look at the great job she’s done with sweats.

Though it might be one of those things that look WAY BETTER in a girl that is posing lovingly to the camera, in the middle of a pleasant park under the sunshine (or a good lighting), I think it is pretty awesome. Now, for me, it is so hard to bring those styles to real life. Especially because most of the time I'm on crowded tube and buses, running around the city under light rain and freezing to death.

When I was a kid, my mom said to me that she was going to give me a gold necklace with a bird pendant for my fifteenth birthday. I have no clue where she got this idea from, but sounded nice. Later, when I finally turned fifteen, I decided to go to Disneyland with my teenage buddies and, well, bye bye little bird pendant. However, I never forgot about it and, through the years, I've searched and searched for the necklace my mom once promised me. Gotta say: wasn't easy. But retail has finally read my mind! I fell in love with the bag since the very first time I saw it (like, VERY recently! LOL). Before starting this so-called fashion blog, I need to tell you guys three little things:

1) I have never had a piece of designer clothing in my entire life. However, that has never stopped me from having a HUGE crush on fashion in general (and drooling over all those amazing window displays around the World). But, guys, I won't be posting any cool pictures of me wearing posh outfits or something just because I CAN'T AFFORD IT. :)

2) I don't really understand that much about fashion, actually. So, no pretension whatsoever to tell what's right or wrong about the subject. It is more about "what I like and what I don't" kinda blog.

3) I am brazilian, so, obviously, english is not my mother tongue. I decided to write my posts in english though, because... One, I live in London and it is a fun way to practice the language. Two, so I can reach more people than I would if it was written in portuguese - people I've met here and in the year I lived in Spain, for example. I am sure my brazilian friends won't mind a bit - they all speak perfect english. Anyway, I can't guarantee there won't be any gramatical errors or something. But I'll try my very best, mates.
